The Best Scooter for Kids 2-5 Years Old

Scooting is such a great way to help kids develop balance and motor skills. It will also help with muscle development and cognitive intuitive skills as they learn to make quick decisions about when to turn and when to brake. What better way to get your kids outdoors and getting some exercise than on a scooter? We’ve taken into account the criteria we suggested in our buying guide and have compiled a list of what we think are the best scooters for kids in this age range. All of these suggestions will come in multiple colors, so any of these will make great girls scooters or boys scooters. There is some ambiguity within this age range, so scooters like the Radio Flyer will make a better toddler scooter, and the Micro Mini kick scooter is the perfect scooter for the whole age range.

Micro Mini Deluxe - Best Overall Kids Scooter

The Micro Mini Deluxe made by a Swiss manufacturer, is one of their top selling products, and possibly the best kids scooter on the market in this age range. The 3 wheel scooter design also means it’s great for very young learners, and could be in the conversation for the best toddler scooter. It’s adjustable to a height of 25″ and will last as the child grows, and is designed to hold a maximum weight of 75lbs. The Micro Mini kick scooters are extremely well constructed and require the child to ‘lean and steer’ helping them learn to balance. It’s lightweight, and though it’s not foldable, the T-bar is removable for travel or storage. It features an anti-slip silicone foot deck that’s low to the ground for better stability. Parents love it because it’s smooth and quiet and durable. Available in multiple colors.

Micro Mini Original

Made by the same Swiss brand as #1 above, Micro Kickboard. The only reason this comes second on our list is because it’s not one of their adjustable height scooters. It does tick many of the other boxes and it’s slightly cheaper than the Deluxe version. This is their most popular scooter due to its smooth and quiet ride. It comes with non marking wheels making this 3 wheel scooter great for kids who are still learning to scoot indoors. It also has ‘lean to steer’ meaning the kids use their body weight to control the direction of the scooter. It is available in multiple colors and has won numerous awards including a Parents’ Choice award and a Best Toy award.

Globber Primo3 Wheel Adjustable Height Scooter

Built by a company out of France, this Globber 3 wheel scooter is one of their adjustable height scooters where the T-bar can extend up to 31.5″. It is not a foldable scooter, but it can be easily stored and transported as a two piece with the click of a button. It has a nice low, steel reinforced foot deck for a strong, stable foundation. They have a patented steering lock, so you can lock the wheels as they learn first by beginning to lean to turn helping their balance and motor skills develop, and they can be unlocked to provide more control over the steering. This a great scooter for 2 year old kids up until about 6 years old. The rear fender brake completely covers the top of the rear wheel for better stopping power. As with any Globber scooter, there are multiple colors available.

Vokul Mini Kick Scooter

Why We Like It:

Wide foot deck

Vokul Mini is a great kids three wheel scooter  which was developed by Vokul. The company is a popular brand among pro and trick scooters. Smart business decision to develop future ‘pros’ with their brand and get them hooked early. This model is an adjustable scooter from 26″ to 31.5″, it has a nice, wide foot deck for optimum stability, and comes with fun LED flashing lights on the front wheels. It’s a lean to turn design helping balance and coordination, and is able to accommodate up to a 77lb weight capacity. The foot deck is plastic but quite durable, and the scooter wheels are made from shock absorbant polyurethane. This, coupled with quality bearings makes it both a smooth and quiet ride.

Radio Flyer - My 1st Scooter

Iconic American brand building classic children’s wagons and tricycles since 1917. Only available in traditional red, or pink, but a classic and a sport version available. We’ll recommend this scooter for the 2-3 year old range, and after that, you may want to consider one of the other models. Mostly made of plastic, it might seem more of a toy scooter to older kids in this age range. Weight limit is just 50lbs, and the height is not adjustable. The big difference here is that the handle bars actually turn making this a great starter, but once the child gets used to scooting and likes it more and more, you’ll probably want to graduate them to a lean to turn. Overall this scooter is well reviewed by parents of kids that skew a bit younger in the 2-5 year old range.

Why We Like It:
Extra wide foot deck
Great for absolute beginners
